Tuamotu
The Tuamotu are an archipelago of 76 atolls located to the northwest of the Society Islands. Meaning -the offshore islands- in Tahitian, this widely scattered group of islands stretches over a length of 1762 km. Its inhabitants are the Paumotus, a word that also designates their language. From Tahiti, it takes 1 hour by plane or 5 days by boat to get there. Made up of low-lying islands just a few meters above the ocean, the Tuamotus are bordered by a superb lagoon teeming with diverse species, making them a very popular destination for divers.
