Toau, a small atoll in the Tuamotu archipelago administratively attached to Fakarava, is located to the northwest of the archipelago. With a length of 35 km and a maximum width of 18 km, Toau encloses a 561 km2 lagoon that opens onto 3 different passes. The atoll is only accessible by sea. There is little tourism, making it an ideal destination for those who dream of living close to the locals. Toau's waters teem with an abundance of underwater species of all kinds, making it a favorite spot for divers. There are no diving centers on the atoll, but the clubs of north Fakarava visit from time to time on organized days. It's also possible to dive the Toau passes on dive cruises.
